Create and open your first project

Create a real project, apply the standard workflow template, and find the main project work areas.

Start with one real customer and project. SunrAI creates the project record and can copy a template's phases and tasks into it.

Before you start

  • Finish team setup if you are the workspace Owner or Admin.
  • Have an existing customer ready, or have the customer's name and full address so you can create one from the project form.
  • Viewers cannot create projects.

Steps

  1. Open Projects

In the dashboard sidebar, click Projects, then click New Project.

  2. Choose the project type

Select Residential, Commercial, or D&R (Detach & Reset). Use D&R only for the post-install detach/reset lifecycle.

  3. Choose the customer

Search for an existing customer. If the customer is missing, click Create new customer and enter the required name and address; email and phone are optional in this inline form.

  4. Review the template

Standard Solar Installation is preselected for a new install when it is available. The preview shows the phases and tasks that will be copied into the project.

  5. Add optional staffing and dates

You can assign a sales agent or teammates to template roles, and set optional start and end dates. These fields can be completed later.

  6. Create the project

Click Create Project. SunrAI opens the new project detail page after the save succeeds.

  7. Start the real work

Use Tasks for the template workflow. Use Photos, Documents, Checklists, and Activity as those records become available for the project.

Verify it worked

  • The project opens with the selected customer and an initial Not Started status.
  • The Tasks tab contains the phases and tasks from the selected template.
  • Returning to Projects shows the new project in the team-scoped list.

Troubleshooting

"The customer already has an active project" — SunrAI blocks accidental duplicate active projects. Open the existing project first. Create a separate lifecycle only when it is intentional.

"No template phases appeared" — Confirm a template was selected. A team Owner or Admin can review reusable templates from Settings → Templates.

"I can view projects but cannot create one" — Viewers are read-only. Ask an Owner or Admin to review your membership role.
